dscf00241Ok, so you’ve decided that you want to buy a pinball machine. What do you do now?

Heighway Pinball normally has more than 20 used pinball machines in stock at any one time. If a required machine is not in-stock, then it can usually be sourced quickly via its network of global contacts.

There have been thousands of different types of pinball machines made over the years. Everybody has a different reason for wanting to buy a pinball machine – maybe they have fond memories of playing a certain pinball machine years ago or maybe they just like the idea of owning a pinball machine and aren’t bothered about a particular machine.

If you don’t have a particular pinball machine in mind then contact us and tell us what you want to get from a pinball machine (eg: what themes do you like?) and what your budget is.

When it comes to pricing, pinball machines are a lot like cars. There are different manufacturers who have produced different models over the years. Those models can vary greatly in price depending on condition. A pinball machine’s price is determined by its:

  • Make and model
  • Condition of its playfield (how much wear does the playing surface have?)
  • Condition of its cabinet (have the colours faded? How many scratches and marks are there? How damaged is the artwork?)
  • Condition of its score displays (are there lines out on the DMD (Dot Matrix Display? Is there any gassing? Does the display take time to warm up)
  • Condition of its playfield machinery (the parts that move on a pinball machine such as flippers, slingshots, etc..)
  • Condition of the playfield plastics (are they chipped/broken? Are there any missing?)
  • Whether or not it has been “serviced” (made fully working) or “shopped” (stripped, cleaned, polished, major playfield machinery rebuilt, etc..)
  • Condition of its circuit boards (a game’s value will be increased if it has replacement “after-market” circuit boards, for example)

It is worth noting that most pinball machines have spent their lives being played hard in arcades and hence, after 10-20 years they can varying degrees of wear. “Mint condition” or “excellent condition” pinball machines clearly demand a premium. Saying this, pinball machines can often be restored – please see our “Restored” section for more details.
